What Happens in a Gum Lift Procedure?

What Happens in a Gum Lift Procedure?

The gum lift procedure is one of the miracles of modern cosmetic dentistry. This gummy smile treatment uses the most advanced surgical technics to fix a complex dental and cosmetic problem that affects millions of people around the world. As he was the pioneer of the GumLift® Procedure in 1989, Dr. Parsa T. Zadeh, DDS, is one of the most experienced and well known gummy smile specialists in the world. With over 25 years of experience, you cannot do better than to have it performed at Zadeh Dentistry in Beverly Hills, California.

When you are considering a gummy smile procedure, Dr. Zadeh will look at your whole smile and find the source of the problem that is causing the proportion between your lips, gums, and teeth to be 'off-balance', and then personally tailor your treatment plan to your very specific needs. There is no cookie cutter technique to doing a gum lift. As each patient is unique, so is the cause of their gummy smile. While there are commonalities, no single approach or treatment plan fits all patients.

It's Time For Surgery! What Now?

The gum lift procedure is not a single surgical technique that can fix all cases of gummy smile. The problems that can create a gummy smile are diverse and often complex, which means that the gummy smile surgery must be advanced and flexible enough to address the individual cause of the patient’s gummy smile. For example, some patients have a gummy smile that is caused by overgrown gums. This type of gummy smile can typically be solved by a simple procedure, such as trimming back the gum line. However, if the patient’s gummy smile is caused by a larger than average jaw bone that makes the gum line larger, simply trimming the gums will not fix the problem.

Two or more techniques may need to be combined; such as trimming the jaw bone and the gum line to give the teeth a more esthetically balanced and pleasing appearance. If a patient's lips and gums are involved, trimming the gum line and helping to reposition the lips may also be needed. In truly severe cases, a gum lift, lip repositioning, jaw trimming, and other techniques may be required.

The gum lift procedure can be performed onsite at Zadeh Dentistry because Dr. Zadeh has a certification in intravenous sedation and is qualified in nearly every form of dental work imaginable. His IV certification from the California Dental Board allows him to perform complex surgical procedures in his office under sedation, without the assistance of an anesthesiologist. This makes scheduling the procedure simpler, as well as saves the patient thousands of dollars on their procedure. You will also never have to see any outside specialists or have another dentist involved in your treatment, as everything is planned and performed by Dr. Zadeh. After a short healing time, you can begin to enjoy your new, well-proportioned smile.

Less Time Than You Think

As this is an outpatient procedure, you can generally expect it to take only one to three office visits to get your new smile, this of course does not include the initial consultation nor the follow-up post-operation appointments, but most of your work can be done in a single visit, in all but the most severe cases -- or if you want to have additional work done to compliment your newly refreshed smile.

Cost should also not be a concern, as the social price of being embarassed by your gummy smile far outways the financials. If you are worried about the cost of a gummy smile procedure, this can be discussed with Dr. Zadeh and we do offering various forms of financing. You might even qualify for 0% financing!
